kahtoola microspikes

Unsurprisingly stockists have had a run on these. Thanks to Ramblin' Jay I managed to track down a supplier, Grit Gear in Derby. I called to check on their availability and although I hadn't mentioned what it was I was calling about I was asked, "Microspikes?" The guy I spoke to, Skinner, told me that they'll be taking another delivery early next week, so I put in my order. He also told me that they dispatched 200 pairs yesterday, and that since they opened this lunch time the phone hadn't stopped ringing. And there are no prizes for guessing what the calls were about.

I was just thinking about those, they would be very useful for the local shops at the moment as well as non-technical hill routes (not that I'll be driving to the hills any time soon!).

I'm kicking myself for not getting these sooner. I saw them in one of the gear shops when I was in the Lakes but was in two minds aout picking a pair up... but decided I wouldn't need them!

I have a pair of these but resorted to their big brother the flexible crampons for my trail shoes this past week. Well worth it!

I fitted my flexible crampons to my boots for a 'walk' up the road. Not sure how they'd fair fitted to a pair of weeny Roclites though!

Hi Baz,

I bought mine last year for some glacier walking in the Everest region. I used them for about 600m, only.
On Monday last week I used them from the road until I got to the south ridge of Snowdon, before putting on G10's. They took me up some pretty nasty stuff before it got too technical.
This last week they have been invaluable for local walking - much on icy pathways!
Top class gear.

I think it will all be history by the time they show up :(

I wish I'd had some on Sunday. Coming off Ingleborough into Ingleton the footpath was a bit icy and my worn out Roclites were really struggling for grip.

On the plus side I'd just got some Inov-8 Debris-socks and these kept the snow out of my trainers really well. I don't have any gaiters, but my trousers are quite tight fitting so I didn't really get any snow on my legs at all, even though most of teh day I was knee deep in the stuff!

I doubt I cna justify any spikes or crampons now, I'll wait to see if there are any bargains later in the year. I've seen other versions of the microspikes whi'll probably do the same job for half the price!
